Hi!

Last week, OpenAI kicked off its '12 Days of OpenAI' with the full o1 release and ChatGPT Pro. This week, they kept the momentum going with even more exciting updates and reveals. Here's a quick roundup of the latest news.

Sora is finally here

The week started with big news: the launch of Sora, OpenAI's long-awaited video generation tool. Sora can create up to 20-second videos in 1080p resolution using text, image, or video inputs. Its customization and editing options make it a powerful tool for visual storytelling and creative expression.

While it’s still early days (think quirky physics and struggles with complex actions), Sora is another exciting step forward for AI-powered video.

Canvas upgrades

Canvas - first introduced in October - has not only moved out of beta mode and into ChatGPT’s main model but is also free for all users.

The beta version was already a fantastic tool to edit and streamline writing and coding projects and the latest update extends this to custom GPT use.

Canvas transforms back-and-forth, occasionally clunky interactions into a more collaborative experience, giving users greater control and precision in writing and coding.

Apple integration

Day 5 brought good news for Apple device users - ChatGPT integration with the Apple operating system. The release of iOS 18.2 integrates ChatGPT directly into Siri, offering users better access to AI assistance across Apple devices.

The combination of ChatGPT and Siri allows for more natural conversation when asking questions. With Visual Intelligence, Siri can analyze and respond to images—ask it to describe a photo or summarize a document. Image Playground lets you generate an image right from a Siri prompt.

Advanced Voice and a Christmas bonus

Live video and screenshare options are being added to Advanced Voice mode for ChatGPT. With real-time capabilities, ChatGPT now offers more than human-like conversation - it can actively analyze video content, identifying and recalling specific details while providing contextual commentary on live interactions. In a similar way, you can share what’s on your phone screen and interact with ChatGPT based on those visuals.

An added festive bonus comes in the form of Santa mode - a new voice addition so you can chat with Santa to your heart’s content!

Projects in ChatGPT

The week draws to a close with a long sought-after feature - the ability to group and organize chats and data.

At its simplest, Projects lets you organize conversations into color-coded folders for easy access. But it doesn’t stop there - this feature allows you to tailor ChatGPT for specific projects by uploading files and setting custom instructions. You can pull data directly from files and past conversations stored in the project folder.

Whether you’re working on a report, coding, or planning an event, Projects ensures you can seamlessly pick up where you left off without starting over each time.

It’s rolling out to Plus, Pro and Team users currently with plans to extend it to free users soon.

So there you have it - a whole heap of OpenAI newness with even more announcements promised next week. Stay tuned to see what else OpenAI has in store…

OK, speak soon!
